Gaming Notebooks Becoming Household Gadgets

August 31, 2008

As of late, gaming laptops were usually built to order by boutique resellers. For sure they were never produced in large volumes but manufacturers did gain a lot of revenue on them. These desirable notebook computers were just not affordable. They the the newest technology and just the best laptop computers. I would get very excited by them but I knew I couldn’t go out and buy laptop computers at the prices they were going for. Things seem set to shift though because now the gaming portables market has caught the attention of larger companies.

In my point of view they would get off by retailing them at a higher price if they desired. Its surely a good path to higher gross profits. In my opinion larger companies can apply leverage to persuade prospects to buy laptop computers despite the expense. I think littler resellers are really troubled about this. Now laptops for gaming will no longer be viewed as a specialist market. Local companies can’t really leverage a brand name like the larger manufacturers can.

The notebook computers hitting the market are demonstrating to be the best laptop computers ever seen. This is an important opportunity the littler competition should apply to their benefit. Most of the time the pre built laptops are good performers but not powerful enough and a few customers don’t like that. Such consumers are generally techies and can liken all the minute details. For this market niche, the specs are usually more important than the design.

Clearly what’s happening here can benefit people in the long run. The best technology will be accessible to the majority when prices are pushed further down. Don’t quote me on that however because anything can happen in the notebook computer market. Premium prices should stay and be normal with the best laptop computers is what I’m thinking. Competition generally forces companies to make better products and provide greater value so that looks hopeful.

Classic Copywriting Tactic Used In High-Selling Magalogues Works Ten Times Better Than “Sampling”

August 25, 2008

If you sell an information product that is basically paper and ink, and are giving out free chapters or free issues (if it’s a newsletter) in order to get people to buy, then please read this article very carefully.

Listen to this:

If you’re like me, and on a lot of different mailing lists getting a lot of direct mail offers for books and subscriptions, then you have probably been sent free “samples.”

By free samples I mean, they sent you a free issue of their publication or a free chapter of their book.

I see this at least once per week and it’s extremely rare when I see it happen from the same company twice. Because it usually doesn’t work.

There are exceptions, obviously. But in general, free samples like this work against you. They cheapen the value of what you’re offering and people don’t think of it as something they should pay for.

On the other hand, the savvy direct mailers (and this also applies online, in case you sell via the Internet) do things a little bit differently.

They “sample” — but not in the same way.

You see, what they do is something called “demonstration.” Which means exactly what it says: They demonstrate what they’re selling right in the ad.

Let me give you an example of what I’m talking about from a real ad I just got in the mail the other day.

It’s a magalogue selling the world-famous newsletter “Health And Healing”, and on page four of the ad, they demonstrate the knowledge of the author(s) and show you a real “secret” you can actually use if you ever happen to have gangrene (not a pleasant condition to have).

And by showing you this special cure (as well as other cures peppered throughout the rest of the ad), they tell you exactly the kind of information you can expect if you buy their newsletter. It’s shows they’re real and they know what they’re talking about.

This is a classic magalogue “secret” that’s been used for years, and yet so few copywriters use it.

And you know what?

If you test using an ad with good demonstration like this, versus just giving away a free sample, nine times out of ten the demonstration ad will blow the free sample campaign away.

Franchising with Regional Team Managers and Partners

August 22, 2008

Many franchise consultants shy away from such advice as securing master franchises as a plan for expansion with a new franchising company. This is because the legal issues and the litigation are tough to deal with and for that kind of liability there just is not enough money in it. Plus most franchisor later regret giving away that much of he pie or they have one or two master franchise failures which brings down the whole system due to bad PR and litigation costs.

One method considered for our company was to set up regional team partners and use existing franchisees already under the franchise agreement to assist in regional expansion. But we decided to make them managers rather than master franchises, regional franchises, sub-franchisors or partners. It turned out we were right as we made the rapid expansion term of only 2-years to the regional team managers incase they under performed or failed to assist us in opening new units. Several underwhelmed us, yet as a whole the program worked and added many units each year in many different regions.

This is good as the goal of a franchisor is to expand. Below is the list of stipulations I put forth to insure that everyone had a fair chance in the agreement;

Regional team manager understands and acknowledges that the following requirements must be met in order to qualify as the regional team manager:

(A)The regional team manager must, at the time of such assignment, be financially responsible and economically capable of performing our objectives in this Agreement and in our business development plan.

(B) The regional team manager must expressly assume and agree to perform such obligation and sign a binding agreement with us.

(C) The regional team manager must be trained and pass our special regional team manager training course.

(D) The regional team manager must be competent and subject to a thirty (30) to sixty (60) day review by us before assignment as the regional team manager.

(E) The regional team manager must run their own The Company franchise for at least one month prior to assignment as the regional team manager.

(F) The regional team manager must own and run a company store unit for the duration of their franchise in a specifically designated territory other than another franchisee’s territory but in their exclusive territory.

(G) The regional team manager must be able to provide all on-going support items to the franchisees listed in the Franchise Agreement.

(H) The regional team manager must attend any formed franchisee organization, union or association meetings in their exclusive territory, which have been officially recognized by us, providing that you want them to be there and of which you are a member.

(I) The regional team manager must maintain on hand at least one area representative and one loaner truck for every twenty (20) franchisees in their exclusive territory.

(J) The regional team manager must sign a non-competition agreement with franchisees not to operate their company store in a franchisee’s exclusive territory unless they have been asked to by the franchisee in case of vacation or injury. For this Agreement to be in force the regional team manager must meet all ten (10) of the above requirements.

In addition to the termination provisions in the Franchise Agreement described in Section 7.1, 7.2 and 7.3, regional team manager will be in default of this Agreement and this Agreement will terminate if five (5) or more franchisees transfer or fail in the regional team member’s exclusive territory within a twelve (12) month period.

This Agreement will remain in force until Franchisor and the regional team manager mutually agree to terminate this Agreement as long as the regional team manager is in good standing and has not violated their The Company Franchise Agreement in any way. Regional team manager will be in violation of this Agreement if they are sixty (60) days or more in arrears with any monies owed Franchisor.

If a franchisee from the regional team member’s exclusive territory contacts The Company with service problems from the regional team manager, The Company will contact the regional team manager to help solve the problem. If The Company has to service the franchisee, the regional team manager will be billed for the service to their franchisee from The Company.

- - - -

Perhaps this might give you your own ideas of how best to rapidly expand your system without getting into the problems of master franchising. Of course I am not a professional parasite attorney so you will have to go pay one $300 per hour to look at such a scenario for you if you think this might be a potential expansion idea for you like it was us and so consider this in 2006.

Vodafone Price Increases Raise Concern

Vodafone is being criticized by the National Consumer Council, for increasing the price of mobile phone calls without so much as informing the customer. Vodafone claims that the changes are minimal and should not affect customers much, even though the plan is to raise the minimum call charges by 25%. Calls to 0800 and 0845 numbers will rise by over 30%. In their July bills, Vodafone included an insert that stated the new price, without highlighting that the prices had been increased.

They try to justify the increase in price, by alleging that there are costs incurred for connecting to non-geographic numbers like 0845 and 0800. These costs have to be covered. In addition to that, they also allege that the European Commission mandated that they cut down the cost of incoming international calls. Vodafone expects that 99% of users will see an increase in their bill that will be below 10 percent. The increase in mobile internet will also see an increase in charges which will become effective September 1, and will affect pay-as-you-go customers, and contracts customers as well.

They claim that customers were informed of the changes through text messages, and in their bills. The higher price will be partially absorbed by the company’s improvement in their price plans. These plan offer contract customers an increase in texts, and minutes. A spokeswoman for Vodafone said that they will work with any customers who are significantly impacted. They will be happy to assist them in identifying a price plan that will work for them.

The NCC has made a general warning to all mobile phone providers, cautioning them to be transparent on their prices. It has also imposed limits on roaming charges for calls across the EU, in conclusion of the initial plan set forth by Viviane Reding.

Discount Merchant Account Availability

August 21, 2008

Find out if discount merchant account services are available for your company by browsing Websites of potential lenders. By checking application guidelines, you will soon see whether you quality, and if so, how to apply and enhance your chances of being approved for this account. Getting a merchant account makes you eligible to accept credit card payments. Think of how greatly your sales volume could increase when you allow customers to pay with credit instead of insisting on cash or checks. They will love you for providing this option, and your sales volume could quickly skyrocket when happy customers come to visit with plastic in hand.

A discount merchant account lets you provide credit payment options at one low price. For example, after paying a possible application and setup fee of perhaps $100, you may be charged just $19.95 per month for the options of accepting credit card and debit payments as well as e-check processing and related services. You have to be careful when shopping for a merchant account, as there may be all kinds of hidden fees that are not listed on the home page. Instead, these may be buried in fine print or posted on a distant link from the home page. You need to find out in advance what the costs will be and how you will be expected to pay them. For example, ask about an online application fee, a membership fee, and a setup fee, among others, if you don’t see these posted. Some services will tell you that what you see is what you get. In other words, if you don’t see a certain fee in the price list, it doesn’t exist and cannot be added later. Even if you accept a merchant account under certain conditions the first year, during the second year your fees could change, so ask about the long view as well.

Applying for a discount merchant account must be undertaken with caution. Something that sounds too good to be true probably is just that. Look for a lender’s name you can trust along with a reputation built on values like integrity and respect. Avoid companies that you are unfamiliar with, as there are many fly-by-night entities looking to make a fast buck. Get the contract in writing, and make sure you read it all before signing up. Ask for clarification of any terms or conditions you do not understand. All too often, an unwary entrepreneur may end up in dire straits when a seemingly lucrative merchant account becomes a sinkhole.

Don’t rush out and buy all types of credit processing equipment when your merchant account is approved. First, make a business budget that includes a category for growth and marketing. Then look for the right kind of equipment that will best serve your customers’ needs. For example, you don’t have to buy every type of credit processing system available when a simple plug-in terminal will do. Keep your expenditures low while you get used to this new way of collecting payments. If all works out well, you can add more options later with your discount merchant account.

CVD - Cardiovascular Disease in Women

August 20, 2008

Cardiovascular disease, also known as CVD, is the number one killer of men and women of all ethnic groups in the United States. Cardiovascular diseases include such ailments as high blood pressure, arrythmia, valve disease, congestive heart failure and stroke. Though worries of more “high profile” diseases such as breast cancer are on the forefront in many women’s minds, the hard truth is that one in four women are affected with some form of cardiovascular disease.

Risk factors for cardiovascular diseases are things such as high blood pressure, obesity, abnormal blood glucose, and even the use of tobacco, among other factors. When caught at an early age, these risk factors can be muted to help prevent manifesting themselves as cardiovascular disease later on.

Altering your lifestyle can help to lower your chances for cardiovascular diseases. Such alterations as eating a diet that is low in fat and cholesterol, adding more fruits and vegetables to your diet, drinking enough water daily, and exercising for half an hour a day are all ways that physicians suggest can assist in lowering your chances for cardiovascular disease.

Cardiovascular diseases are known as silent killers, as they often have no symptoms. If you think you may be having any symptoms of heart disease, you should speak to your doctor about the many tests available. Doctors often begin with simple tests, the results of which can lead to tests that are more complex.

In connection with cardiovascular disease are “extra” heartbeats, which typically happen when there is an irritation in the lower part of the heart’s pumping chambers. They interrupt the normal heart rhythm, which can feel like a missed beat. This can actually be a harmless “quirk” of your body’s functions, or can lead to problems that are far more serious.

If a woman has these palpitations or any other symptoms such as dizziness, blurred vision, or shortness of breath, she should contact her doctor right away. A complete medical history, physical exam, and other tests will be run to determine the cause of these behaviors, which can be anything from stress-related behavior to something far more dangerous. The advice and consultation of a physician where heart disease is concerned is the only way to go.

Live to Work or Work to Live?

August 15, 2008

We decided that there was more to life that the drab 9-5 in the UK - bad weather, miserable people and living just to work. So like many others before us, we found a house in Italy, sold up in the UK and after restoration, opened Villa Sibillini Country House, once an old farmhouse and now running as a small hotel.

There were many troubles along the way - the language and difference in culture for a start in a region that no one had heard of. But now just 3 years in, we are just about turning the corner. I still have to do some work in the UK while we are still improving and I do at least an hour a day on the internet finding more ways to be found. We’ve tried many ways to market ourselves, with competitions, exhibitions, and publicity but it still surprises me how many people are looking to do the same.

We were 49/50 when we took this giant step and had both run businesses, but young couple are also turning their back on the UK to start a new life with their young families. It seems we are looking for the old values; family, friends, and helping each other. There’s much bartering, ready help - even if you don’t know the person and a general feeling of well being, but most of all we are here working to live, not living to work.

Someone else, when asked the difference in the UK an Italy said “Life in England is in black and white - in Italy it’s in colour”. I couldn’t have put it better myself.

The Five Most Powerful Questions a Coach Can Ask: Five Must Ask Questions for Every Business or Life

August 14, 2008

Any good coach asks their players (people who are being coached) questions. A great coach asks questions that open doors to help their players achieve things they never dreamed were possible.

Surprising to some, answers are not the most potent tool a coach has. Questions are! Questions empower people to invent their own answers and solutions, thus developing them for future challenges.

To discover new possible actions or to move your players toward their intended objectives, always ask these 5 most powerful questions:

1. What must happen? What specific, interim outcomes should be accomplished in the timeframe to achieve your ultimate objective? Depending on the objective, this could be the next day, week, or month.

2. Why do you think so? Examine reasons for the selection of interim outcomes. Are there more important or more urgent outcomes that may have been overlooked?

3. How might that be accomplished? Explore a number of approaches and alternatives. Keep exploring until all known options are exhausted and begin to create new ones. Select actions from the list that will help achieve the interim or partial outcomes.

4. Who will/should/could be the one(s) to do it? Who will perform the tasks? Is it you or should you delegate the action to an employee or request a colleague to do it?

5. When must this be accomplished? Set specific dates of completion for each of your objectives.

Responses to these five questions will form a plan to help players realize their objectives. But, it shouldn’t stop there. Arm yourself with a cornucopia of possible questions. Then, and only then, can you unlock new creative pathways and help your player achieve their dreams.

Egypt resorts and attractions

If you make a decision to spend your vacation in Egypt, usually you have a choice of two sea resorts - Hurghada or Sharm El Sheikh. They both are very popular, but Hurghada is situated in African continent while Sharm El Sheikh lies on Sinai peninsula.
About 30 years ago Hurghada was just a simple fishing village. But now, with it’s a resort with crystal clear water, untouched reefs. It has become one of the best Egyptian tourist destinations. A significant part of its fame Hurghada gained as one of the best diving centres of the world. Like all oriental cities Hurghada make living out of trade, so if when you walk along the city, be ready to beat off the pressing offers of the sellers, deserving to make you buy their souvenirs. There are some more entertainments except shopping and diving in Hurghada. You can make a jeep trip to a desert, visit Bedouin’s village there; you can see corals and some natural preserves. Hurghada is also has aqua-park. Fishing is one of the popular tourist’s activities in Hurghada too. Today, Hurghada is known as a party town, particularly among Europeans. Locals and others will tell you that life begins at night in Hurghada, with the many, many clubs.
The best time to visit Hurghada is October-November. In winter there are strong winds and it becomes dark very early.
When you are in Hurghada don’t miss the chance to see one of the most outstanding monuments of Egypt history - Luxor and the Valley of the King. Pharaoh’s tombs and ancient temples are worth visiting.
Sharm el-Sheikh is one of the most accessible and developed tourist resort communities on the Sinai peninsula. All around are Bedouins, colorful tents, mountains and sea. Na’ama Beach is one of the center of the tourist activities. Located just north of Sharm, this area is developing into a resort town of its own. For those who like shopping, the Sharm El-Sheikh mall provides shops with both foreign and local products, including jewelry, leather goods, clothing, pottery and books. Nobody leaves Sharm el-Sheikh without several useless but very pleasant souvenirs. Like Hurghada, Sharm el-Sheikh is famous for diving too, but it has more diversity in corals.
Those, who choose Sharm el-Sheikh also has opportunity to watch the attraction of Sinai peninsula - The Monastery of St Catherine, Mount Sinai (or Mountain of Moses), Pharaoh’s Island and Salah El Din Citadel, Nabq National Park, Ras Abu Galum National Park and so-called ‘Coloured Canyon’.
The last but not the least of the Egypt must-sees is Cairo with its pyramids. From either Hurghada or Sharm El-Sheikh it will be a long trip, but you will never regret it!
When you going to Egypt, be aware that 3-star hotels in Egypt have nothing to do with 3-star hotels in Europe. So, it’s better to choose 4 or 5 star hotel. Probably it saves you from many inconveniences. Often, the large hotels have zoos, playgrounds, discos, bars, a number of pools and even small theaters. So, may be you will to want to leave your hotel.
Anyway, a trip to Egypt promises to be exotic and interesting expierence.
